Manager, Strategic Initiatives

Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget: CRFB is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization devoted to educating policymakers, the media, and citizens about the fiscal challenges facing the country, as well as the possible solutions. CRFB is made up of some of the nation's leading budget experts including many of the past Chairmen and Directors of the Budget Committees, the Congressional Budget Office, the Office of Management and Budget, the Government Accountability Office, and the Federal Reserve Board. CRFB is home to a number of projects including the campaign to Fix the Debt, which is a coalition of business, civic, advocacy, and community leaders who want to see elected officials step up to solve our nation’s fiscal challenges. 

Position Summary:  
The Manager, Strategic Initiatives will work directly with senior leadership to assist in the management and oversight of a variety of organizational strategic projects, including those housed within CRFB’s Fiscal Institute. The position will staff across the organization to coordinate and communicate organizational goals on a day-to-day basis, while taking a lead role in managing select projects.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as project manager for various policy projects assigned by management, including initiatives housed within CRFB’s Fiscal Institute.
  • Work with the Director of Development to identify and cultivate new policy projects and strategic initiatives.
  • Work with individuals and units across the organization to ensure communication of project priorities and deadlines.
  • Work with Chief of Staff to develop and implement systems to help organization identify, communicate, and track status of key organizational priorities and projects.
  • Perform research to support policy projects and initiatives as assigned by management.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Bachelor’s degree required. Masters’ degree preferred.
  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative in a fast-paced policy advocacy environment.  
  • Have a passion for and understanding of federal budget issues, particularly the threat posed by our nation’s long-term fiscal challenges. 
  • Willingness to serve in a bipartisan manner, fostering relationships and support from both sides of the aisle, even if the candidate has an existing partisan identity.
